Steve Nash said during a recent interview with ESPN, that he does not think that Russell Westbrook and Derrick Rose are real point guards:

Q: Who has the best point guard in L.A. right now? The Clippers or Lakers?

“I love Chris Paul. I think he’s, if not the best, top two point guards in the game. Now with Russell and Derrick Rose, they’re like super guards. I’m not sure you can categorize them as point guards. There was a time when I could have made an argument for myself as the best point guard in the game, but I can leave that to some of the other guys now. I still know I can do it at an extremely high level, and I’m still extremely competitive. Let’s hope the Lakers are the best team in L.A., and I won’t worry about who is the best point guard in L.A.”

Thanks to Steve Nash for showing me the way. I had been looking for a term to define Westbrook and Rose for the longest time. I believe "super guards" are the perfect words to describe the two most athletics guards in the NBA. That sort of leaves Tony Parker in his own category. He isn't the typical point guard, nor is he extremely athletic, but yet, he was the best in the league at his position last season.

I would have probably mentioned Deron Williams as the top pure point guard in the league, but you can't really be wrong if you go with Chris Paul or Rajon Rondo either.
