The 81-year-old HBO's commentator Larry Merchant was reportedly assigned to the Mayweather/Cotto fight on May 5th as he told ESPN:

"They told me that I will be doing the May 5 show, and I am looking forward to it," Merchant said. "Everybody knows what happened, and it seemed like the right thing to do was to put me on the fight."

Merchant was called up despite the fact that Mayweather wishes he would never be around any of his fights again ever since the Victor Ortiz fight:

I don't know if it's because Merchant is getting old but he sounded very angry that Mayweather beat Victor Ortiz. He definitely did not give Mayweather the proper credit after the fight, and kept bringing up how unfair he thought Mayweather's shots were.

HBO knows how to build up for a great night of boxing though. Bringing back Larry Merchant will only add drama to the Mayweather/Cotto fight and encourage more people to watch it.
