Knick guard JR Smith said in a recent interview that he believes the New York Knicks have the players to win a championship.:

In an interview with ESPNNewYork.com this weekend, Smith said he thinks that the Knicks, on paper, have the talent to win a championship, something the franchise hasn't done in 40 years.

"Right now with the talent we have, what it says on paper is championship all day. But it's a matter of us going out there and doing it," Smith said after appearing at an event in Harlem at Nike's House of Hoops to promote/give away some Nike sneakers to children.

I'm not sure how many of his teammates would actually co-sign with JR Smith with his statement, he might have just put himself on an island with this one. If the Knicks had gone passed the first round in the playoffs last season, Smith would have sounded somewhat credible. Having the players to win a title means having a group of guys that only care about winning. Besides Jason Kidd, who is 39 years old, and Ronnie Brewer, who actually played on good playoff teams with the Bulls and the Jazz, I only see talented players that aren't necesarily known to be winners. The Knicks still have most of their nucleus from last season, and I will always see something wrong with having Carmelo Anthony, Amar'e Stoudamire and JR Smith on the same squad...
