Dwyane Wade spoke about the new look Los Angeles Lakers, and the Chicago Bulls' superstar point guard Derrick Rose in a recent interview with the Chicago Tribune:

Dwyane Wade of the defending NBA champion Heat is impressed yet unfazed that the Lakers acquired All-Star center Dwight Howard from the Magic in the offseason.

"Any time Kobe Bryant is on the basketball court in the NBA, his team is a threat," Wade said Wednesday during an interview before several hundred attendees of the Union League Club luncheon in Chicago to promote his book: "A Father First: How My Life Became Bigger Than Basketball."

Howard was dealt to the Lakers in a four-team deal Aug. 10 that had center Andrew Bynum going to the 76ers.

"You throw in a little Steve Nash and you throw in a little Dwight Howard in the mix, and a little Antawn Jamison … and you still have Pau Gasol … that's a threat," Wade acknowledged.

"But we don't run away from a challenge. We enjoy it. All around the league, there are a lot of teams that feel good about their chances. But one thing that you realize, and I found out as well … you don't win a championship until you win a championship. It's a lot of preseason hype that, 'Ah, it's going to be (the Lakers), it's going to be them.' You have to play the games.

"As a franchise we are very confident. We know nothing is guaranteed because we have been there before. We look forward to the challenge. It is going to be great for the game of basketball. It made the L.A. fans poke their chests out a little bit wider. And their chests' already (were) poked out."

Wade addressed a number of other issues, including the Bulls' Derrick Rose, who is rehabbing an injured knee and is expected to miss much of the 2012 season.

"He doesn't talk much, so I don't know much," Wade said. "But you have to work even harder once you have an injury. He has to rebuild himself, and I think Derrick is a very hard worker. You have to have trust, you have to have faith, you have to have belief.

"One thing when he comes back to playing basketball, you can't question yourself. When he steps back on the court, he has to be the same Derrick Rose. There are going to be people who are going to tell him: 'Oh, you're going to need to change the way you play.' But that's the reason everyone fell in love with Derrick Rose as a player, because of the way he played. So don't change the way you play. Just have the confidence and trust and belief in your rehab process and the doctor who did the surgery and you will be fine."

Wade showed all his class here, in this interview. He showed respect to the Lakers, without saying too much and minimizing his team, and also reminded us that the Miami Heat are looking to repeat. As far as Derrick Rose, I'll be the first one to tell you that I hope he comes back, and never changes his game. He is by far one of the most spectacular players in the league.
