Calvin Johnson became the highest paid receiver in the NFL after signing a 8-year extension with the Detroit Lions worth $132 million, and $60 million guaranteed. This is the report from ESPN:

"Johnson has signed an eight-year deal worth up to $132 million, making him the highest paid receiver in the NFL. He had a year remaining on his original deal after being drafted in 2007, but this extension starts immediately and runs through the 2019 season."

The Lions' coach Jim Schwarz had absolutely no objection to giving Johnson the best contract possible after he proved to be one of the better receivers in the NFL:

"Calvin's one of those guys -- we've said this about a few guys that we have in our building -- whatever they pay him is not enough," Lions coach Jim Schwartz said. "He's truly a special player."

The word that decribes Johnson's previous five years with the Lions is 'consistency'. Detroit went through some tough years before choosing their starting quarterback Matthew Stafford as the number 1 pick of the 2009 draft. Johnson averaged close to 15 or more yards per reception with an impressive average of 9.8 touchdowns in his 5 seasons with the Lions. Last year was his best season as he finished with 16 touchdowns.
